A working day in India is any weekday (Monday to Friday) that is not a gazetted national or state holiday. For 2026, India has 17 central government holidays plus 3–8 regional holidays per state — Karnataka observes ~21 in total, Maharashtra ~19, Tamil Nadu ~20.
Use this calculator to count working days between any two dates in 2026 or 2027 across 10 Indian states. Results account for state-specific gazetted holidays sourced from official state gazettes. No signup, nothing leaves your browser.
Dates outside 2026–2027 aren't supported yet — results may miss state holidays. Pick a range within the supported years.

What counts as a working day?
Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays, and state-notified holidays that fall on weekdays. If a national holiday like Independence Day (15 August) lands on a Saturday, it isn't counted twice — the weekend already covers it.
This tool uses the calendar-year gazette list published by each state. If your company runs a 6-day week or has private holidays (e.g. founder's day), use those lists alongside this output.
How to use the calculator
- Pick your state. Select from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, or West Bengal. Each state's gazette list differs by 3–8 regional holidays on top of the 17 national holidays.
- Pick a year. 2026 or 2027. The calculator uses the matching year's gazetted holiday list. For 2027, lunar-calendar dates (Eid, Holi, Diwali) are tentative until each state publishes its gazette.
- Pick a date range. Enter the start and end dates. The range is inclusive of both endpoints. Cross-year ranges (e.g. 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 financial year) are supported — the calculator consults both years automatically.
- Read the result. You get total days, working days, weekend days, holiday days, and the full list of state holidays that fell in your range. Use the Copy link button to share the exact range with a colleague.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate working days in India for 2026?
Pick your state, select the year, and choose a start and end date. The calculator counts every calendar day in the range, subtracts Saturdays and Sundays, then subtracts any state-notified holidays (national plus regional) that fall on weekdays. It leaves you with an accurate working-day count.
Does this handle state-specific holidays?
Yes. The 2026 and 2027 calendars for 10 states are sourced from each state's gazette — Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Lunar-calendar festivals (Eid, Holi, Diwali) are marked 'approximate' because the moon-sighting date can shift by a day.
Can I add custom company holidays?
Not in this calculator — it uses the government gazette list only. For company-specific holidays (founder's day, annual offsite), AttendFirst's attendance console lets you add them to your company holiday calendar and they automatically flow into attendance reports.
What about Saturday working (6-day week)?
This calculator assumes a 5-day week (Saturday and Sunday off). If you work Saturdays, add the number of Saturdays in your range back to the working days count. The Weekend Days result already shows how many Saturdays + Sundays fell in your range — Saturdays are roughly half of that figure.
Does it work for accounting-year or financial-year ranges?
Yes. The calculator supports any date range within 2026 or 2027, including cross-year ranges like 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 (the Indian financial year). It consults both years' holiday tables automatically.
